What I’ve Been Up To In April

Another month gone already!? This will be a short one, as I spent most of this month on a regular production cadence, trying to progress on my drawings, game, and book. While I am fairly satisfied with my productivity of the month, the FOMO in me wonders if I am getting too complicit about it, and perhaps I am missing some opportunity to further improve it.

I actually went through a week experimenting with a different daily schedule, and the result (which involves a battered, exhausted me, with no visible gain, if not loss, to my productivity) proved that I should just ignored those inner voice of FOMO 🙂

A bit of spoiler for what can be coming next month: I’ve been thinking about how to put all of these creative results into a place that allows me to distribute them to a follower base, so yes, I’ve been looking into Substack and Patreon as the potentially channels for this. (stay tuned!)

Here are the things that kept me busy this past month, aside from the day-to-day ‘job’ related stuff…

Creating and hacking stuffs

  • Game dev – The game ‘Qin’: plenty of progress!  I ended up spending an extra week fixing the issues on multi-touch and the floating joystick, then sourced a public domain background music, a new parallax background, special attack now has a special animation (this I made a while ago for a pixel art ‘jam’).  All these are uploaded to my Itch.io page for anyone to give it a try!
  • Drawing – I continue to develop my skill and style, for both drawing and calligraphy. I am happy to see that my art started to change style, taking a voice by itself…

  • Writings
    • ‘Nostalgic Game Review’: Last of the 3-part finale covers games in 2002-2010 and it draws this column to a closing point, for the time being 🙂  I will have to play more games now in order to write about them in the future.
    • My 1st storybook: spent quite some time learning about book publishing dimensions, bleed, margin, spread etc. and re-edited the whole thing. Getting very close to the finish line now. Just designing the cover now.

  • Merch Store – yeah… no update here, but please do check it out.

Consuming Stuffs

If you really finished reading the above, I thank you, and wish that my sharing would either entertain you, or inspire you (if you’ve been thinking about your own creative projects).
