Welcome to my weekly letter, where I share a few noteworthy articles and my own commentary. Without further ado…
Weekly Read
- An Apparent Ransomware Hack Puts the NRA in a Bind (Wired) – an interesting story to see the tricky situation for any organization being hacked by the cybercriminals that US OFAC imposed sanctions on. Here is another article that dives deeply into the history on how US developed the framework to impose such sanction (it started in 2012, but really took off after 2016)
- US, China, Russia Test New Space War Tactics: Sats Buzzing, Spoofing, Spying (Breaking Defense) – this quickly escalated from what’s described in this story as ‘provocative maneuvers’ getting too closed to another country’s satellites, potential intercepting the data signals, to the incidents 2 weeks after where Russia did the shocking maneuver
- 1.8 TB of Police Helicopter Surveillance Footage Leaks Online (Wired) – police helicopter, drones, IoT surveillance, all these data will need to be tightly secured to properly protect people’s privacy… but… why surveil people in the first place? Is surveillance a solution to better fight potential crimes, or a solution in search of a problem?
- A Drone Tried to Disrupt the Power Grid. It Won’t Be the Last (Wired) – so this is a story where drone is used to disrupt power grid (with the intention to cause damages)… perhaps apply a literal ‘firewall’ as countermeasure? 😀
That’s it for this week! Have a nice weekend!
