Welcome to my weekly letter, where I share a few noteworthy articles and my own commentary. Without further ado…
Weekly Read
- The Race to Save St. Mark’s Basilica From Salty Floodwaters (Wired) – Well, guess we will have to accelerate Project Rapture or the contingency plan of Project Columbia (Bioshock fan, anyone?)
- An All-American Cheese From the Atomic Age (Saveur) – White is the new blue! Here is the story of a non-blue blue cheese made with UV light induced mutant mold and where you can buy it!
- This Evolutionary Gift May Protect Coral From Climate Change (Wired) – these coral went through some interesting history causing their evolution to develop a high level of heat resistance. Now, perhaps we can evolve faster to adapt to this ever polluted world by… more UV lights? (see the above article) Not fast enough? Perhaps gene tonics? (I missed playing that game!)
- The Long, Strange Life of the World’s Oldest Naked Mole Rat (Wired) – just like Hulk’s strategy with anger management (“I’m always angry“), Joe, the mole rat in this article, runs with the strategy of “always looking old” :D. This reminds me of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button too.
- A Zombie-Fire Outbreak May Be Growing in the North (Wired) – a follow up to this article from April. Zombie-Fire:0, Surfactant: 1 (let’s keep it that way…)
Have a nice weekend!
