What I’ve been up to in April

It’s been a busy April! Here are the things that kept me busy this past month, aside from the day-to-day ‘job’ related stuff…

Learning Stuffs

This month I’ve wrapped up two long-running courses: Pixel Arts (8 months!), Investment (5 months). I am elated for completing the courses and the knowledge/skill I acquired. But I also recognized that investing 1.5 hour each weekday on these two courses, while rewarding, was very heavy on my schedule 🙂

I’ve also started a new course, “Javascript full stack web dev” – the language of the internet seems to stay strong after so many years, and I’ve always been curious about Node.JS, REACT, and latest being Typescript.

Creating and hacking stuffs

  • Drawing: I continue to develop my skill and style

  • Writing: Nothing much to share, as I continued to slowly develop a story, while maintaining my blog and Medium publication
  • Game dev: the original reason for learning about pixel arts was to make a game. And am I glad now I’ve completed the course! I expect the slow grind for the next few months on this, starting with some sketched out concept art, story, research, gameplay design doc, mocks and some pixel art assets… For now I can share two characters!
  • My site now has a store! store.heta.link was built with Spri.ng (f.k.a Teespring) and this is where I will turn my art into merch 🙂 Take a look!

Consuming stuffs

  • Reading
    1. Finished One Story #266, 273, 274, 275
    2. Finished ‘Five Love Languages for Teenagers‘ (in Chinese simplified) – thanks to a friend who lent me the book.
    1. Start reading ‘Dorothy Must Die’ book#3 ‘Yellow Brick War’ – thanks to my goddaughter who lent me this book.
    2. Start reading Mr. Obama’s ‘A Promised Land
  • Gaming:
    • Put on hold:
      • Red Dead Redemption 2 – got into chapter 2 and realized it’s essentially GTA in the wild west… but for some reason I don’t feel motivated to explore and live in this game world… preferring a more linear and tight story. (I wondered if the open-world type of game no longer appeals to me, but then realized I enjoy Zelda BOTW just fine. What gives?)
      • Bastion: I got a bit frustrated by a particular level… so I will take a break for now.
  • TV: Watched ZS’s Justice League (I actually enjoyed this 4+ hour of a beast. 8/10), Godzilla vs Kong (meh, I give it 6/10), Weathering with You (7/10)

If you really finished reading the above, I thank you, and wish that my sharing would either entertain you, or inspire you (if you’ve been thinking about your own creative projects). Until next month!
